Flashpoint Patch 1.22.0 Analysis

Full analysis of the Flashpoint update. Canto SMG, Dolabra shotgun, Vaporizer enemy, Close Scrutiny map condition, balance changes, and what they mean for your loadout.
searches/mo
Two new weapons, a new ARC enemy, a new map condition, and balance changes that affect every raid. The Canto is the headline — a medium-ammo SMG that might obsolete the Stitcher + Ferro combo. The Dolabra is flashy but niche. Shredders are now on every map. Key rooms got a loot buff. Budget loadout players got a server quality upgrade.

// THE META SHIFT

The Canto is the headline. A medium-ammo SMG breaks a fundamental constraint that existed since launch: SMGs couldn't fight ARC. Every SMG used Light ammo with Very Weak ARC penetration. The Stitcher — the community's favorite budget weapon — required a Ferro or Bettina as backup for ARC encounters. The Canto potentially eliminates that tax. If its fire rate and damage are competitive with the Stitcher, budget loadouts simplify from two weapons to one. Compare weapons in the damage calculator once stats are verified.

The Dolabra is flashy but niche. Legendary rarity means most players won't have one for weeks. Energy ammo means a separate ammo pool. Variable focus is a new mechanic nobody has muscle memory for. It'll be powerful in the hands of experienced players running Close Scrutiny, but it won't reshape the average raid the way the Canto might.

// NEW WEAPONS

Canto (SMG — Rare — Medium Ammo): First medium-ammo SMG. Medium ammo likely means Moderate ARC penetration — the same tier as the Rattler. This means an SMG that can fight both Raiders AND ARC without a backup weapon. At Rare rarity, it's craftable with Tiers I-IV and accessible to mid-game players. The question: is the fire rate and damage competitive with the Stitcher? If yes, the Canto is the new best budget weapon. Stats pending in-game verification.

Dolabra (Energy Shotgun — Legendary): First energy shotgun. First variable focus weapon. Wide burst for PvE crowds. Focused funnel for ARC armor cracking. Energy ammo means no conflict with any other weapon type. Blueprint drops from Close Scrutiny. Legendary means no upgrades, no crafting chain, and losing one hurts. If the focused mode TTK approaches Vulcano levels, it's a monster in CQC. Stats pending verification.

// NEW ARC ENEMY

Vaporizer (Flying ARC — Laser): The first ARC designed to deny open space. Laser attacks at range, appears in groups, patrols ARC Operations. This changes how you approach the Assessor during Close Scrutiny — you can't just sprint to it. Break line of sight. The laser needs LOS. Use buildings, terrain, and cover to approach. The Torrente's sustained fire is effective against flying ARC. Drops Vaporizer Regulator — used in Dolabra crafting per community reports.

// MAP CHANGES

Shredders Everywhere: Previously Stella Montis only. Now on Blue Gate, Buried City, Spaceport, and Dam Battlegrounds (during conditions). This raises baseline danger across every map. Budget runs just got riskier.

Close Scrutiny (ARC Operation): High-risk, high-reward map condition. Less ambient loot. The ARC Assessor lands on the map under heavy guard — the Assessor itself holds high-value loot. Bring your best gear. The Dolabra blueprint drops here. Vaporizers patrol the perimeter.

Key Room Loot Buff: Increased loot value in ALL locked rooms, scaled by key rarity. Higher-rarity keys now give proportionally better loot. Direct buff to key farming — key rooms are worth more risk than before.

// BALANCE CHANGES

Free augments now recycle into 6 plastic + 6 rubber (previously nothing useful). Custom loadout players biased toward fresh servers, reducing encounters with free-kit runners. Rocketeer collision damage reduced. Firefly spawn clustering reduced (fewer multi-Firefly ambushes). ARC identification speed increased at close range.

// FREE LOADOUT SPAWN — THE COMMUNITY DEBATE

The matchmaking change is bigger than it sounds. Custom loadout players are now biased toward fresh servers. This means if you build your own kit, you're more likely to drop into a server at the start of its lifecycle rather than late-joining an already-looted map.

The real impact: this is a stealth buff to the First Principles Farming strategy. If you bring a crafted loadout, you get fresher maps with more loot. Your break-even calculation improves because the average loot per raid increases.

// CRAFTING IMPROVEMENTS

The crafting UI now lets you fulfill missing materials directly from the crafting view — recycling, refining, or purchasing in one window. Major quality-of-life improvement that reduces time in Speranza. Directly complements the First Principles Farming calculator.

// WHAT TO DO RIGHT NOW

1. Get the Canto. Craft or find one. Test it against the PVP dummy and against ARC. If the stats hold up, update your loadout. 2. Run Close Scrutiny at least once. Hunt for the Dolabra blueprint. Learn the Vaporizer spawn patterns. 3. Update your loadout math using the Loadout Cost Calculator. If Canto is competitive, your budget changed. 4. Be careful on Blue Gate and Buried City. Shredders are there now. 5. Farm key rooms. The loot buff makes them more valuable than before.

// HOW TO GET THE CANTO

The Canto Blueprint appears to be a random world drop. It can be found in lootable containers, as drops from ARC enemies, or in random locations across any map. There is no confirmed specific source or map condition required. Embark did not provide targeted guidance on where to find it, unlike the Dolabra which has a specific source.

Crafting the Canto requires Assessor Matrix components, which drop from looting the ARC Assessor during Close Scrutiny operations.

Crafting cost: Pending verification Vendor availability: Check Tian Wen and Celeste after finding the Blueprint

// HOW TO GET THE DOLABRA

The Dolabra Blueprint drops from the ARC Assessor during Close Scrutiny ARC Operations. This is the only confirmed source — multiple players confirmed finding it within the first hour of the patch.

To get the Dolabra Blueprint: 1. Queue for a map with Close Scrutiny active 2. Bring endgame gear — Vaporizers and heavy ARC patrols guard the Assessor 3. Fight through to the Assessor and loot it 4. The Blueprint is not guaranteed — multiple runs may be needed

Crafting requires Vaporizer Regulators (dropped by Vaporizer ARC enemies). The Dolabra is Legendary — it cannot be upgraded through tiers.

// WHERE DOES THE DOLABRA BLUEPRINT DROP?

The ARC Assessor during Close Scrutiny map condition. This is a large, heavily guarded ARC structure that lands on the map. Loot it for a chance at the Dolabra Blueprint. Community confirmed within hours of patch launch.

// WHAT IS THE ASSESSOR MATRIX AND IS IT WORTH KEEPING?

The Assessor Matrix is a new recyclable item that drops from the ARC Assessor during Close Scrutiny. It sells for 5,000 coins at only 0.5 kg — that's 10,000 coins per kg, one of the best value-per-weight items in the game.

Recycles into: 1 Advanced Mechanical Component + 3 Advanced ARC Powercells Used in: Canto SMG crafting (community confirmed)

Even if you don't want to craft the Canto, the Assessor Matrix is worth extracting purely for economy. Put it in your safe pocket immediately.

// HOW TO BEAT THE VAPORIZER

The Vaporizer is a flying ARC with laser attacks that appears in groups. Key strategies: - Break line of sight. The laser requires LOS — use buildings and terrain as cover. - Don't engage in the open. Multiple Vaporizers with overlapping lasers will melt you. - Use sustained fire weapons. The Torrente's 90-round magazine causes flying ARC to stagger and expose weak points. - Clear them BEFORE approaching the Assessor. They patrol the perimeter. - Listen for audio cues. Patch 1.22.0 improved directional audio for flying ARC. Test weapon damage against the Vaporizer using the damage calculator.

// WHAT DOES THE VAPORIZER DROP?

Vaporizer Regulator — an Epic rarity recyclable (0.5 kg, found in ARC zones). Community reports confirm it's used in Dolabra crafting, though the item tooltip doesn't currently show the recipe (likely a patch-day UI bug).

// WHICH MAPS HAVE SHREDDERS NOW?

As of Patch 1.22.0, Shredders spawn on ALL maps: - Stella Montis (always — original location) - Blue Gate (new) - Buried City (new) - Spaceport (new) - Dam Battlegrounds (during certain map conditions only)

Previously Shredders were confined to Stella Montis. Budget farming routes on Blue Gate and Buried City are now riskier.

// DOES THE FREE LOADOUT MATCHMAKING CHANGE AFFECT QUEUE TIMES?

Embark says they're monitoring it. The change biases custom loadout players toward fresh servers and free loadout players toward existing servers. This "won't be a guarantee" — map choice, time of day, and region still affect matchmaking.

The dev note acknowledges the tradeoff: better server quality for geared players may increase overall matchmaking times. They'll adjust if needed.

// WHAT IS CLOSE SCRUTINY AND IS IT WORTH RUNNING?

Close Scrutiny is the first ARC Operation — a new category of map condition. The ARC Assessor lands on the map under heavy guard. Less ambient loot spawns, but the Assessor itself contains high-value loot including the Dolabra Blueprint and Assessor Matrix.

Worth running if: You want the Dolabra BP, you want Assessor Matrix (5,000 coins each), or you want Vaporizer Regulators for Dolabra crafting.

Not worth running if: You're on a budget loadout (too risky — calculate your loadout risk), farming basic materials (less ambient loot), or solo without experience against heavy ARC.

// WHAT CHANGED ABOUT KEY ROOM LOOT?

Loot value in ALL locked rooms increased, with a scaled increase based on key rarity. Higher-rarity keys now produce proportionally better loot. Combined with the fresh server matchmaking change (custom loadout players get priority for unlooted servers), key runs are more profitable than they've ever been. Use the Loadout Cost Calculator to calculate whether your key run loadout breaks even with the new loot values.
